2.    ELECTRICAL HEAT TRACE (EHT), SELF-REGULATING

 

Typical Arctic Pad® designs utilize Thermon Manufacturing Co.’s; HTSX or KSX Self-Regulating Heat Trace. However, as some clients prefer other manufacturers, we are happy to accommodate.

 

EHT is embedded within the Arctic Pad®, and certified for both use in ordinary non-classified areas and in potentially explosive atmospheres, in accordance with the ATEX Directive and the IEC Ex Scheme.  The Type and Watt Density of EHT is determined by the operational environment, notation, specified requirements and power availability all play key factors in the final design.

3.    COLD LEAD / POWER CORD

 

General Cables Offshore and Marine Shipboard Cable has been chosen as the preferred cold lead/power cord component of the Arctic Pad® with its rugged impact resistant design and its widespread use throughout offshore oil and gas drilling platforms, MODUs, ships and FPSOs.

 

Suitable for use in Class I, Division 1 and Zone 1 Hazardous Locations when installed in accordance with API RP14F.

 

       Features:

  • Meets NEK 606 mud oil resistance requirements including ester-based muds

  • Meets UL 2225 crush and impact requirements of Type MC-HL cables

  • Flexible stranding to facilitate ease of cable installation and termination

  • Temperature rated @ 125°C for long life, higher ampacities and protection from thermal overloads

4.    TRACTION PROFILE(S)

 

The most important element in providing a non-slip surface is the ability to provide the appopriate traction profile for the right situation.  AMS has designed some of the best traction profiles available today, providing exceptional traction or co-efficient of friction (COF). These profiles are a molded part of the Arctic Pad and are augmented with aluminum oxide within the non-skid coating.

5.    NON-SKID & PROTECTIVE COATING

 

Non-Skid contains sand and aluminum oxide particles to provide additional traction.  Our protective coating seals & bonds the polymer structure of all our traction pads.  Thus provides an additional barrier of protection from:

  • chemicals

  • diesel

  • other corrosive fluids

  • ultra-violet rays

This coating also while providing excellent resistance to corrosion, abrasion and impact.

How It Works

When energized, the heated core in Arctic Pads automatically adjusts to the changing ambient temperatures - without any sophisticated controls or monitoring.

For Example

As the ambient temperature drops, the EHT core contracts microscopically and the number of electrical paths between the bus wires increases precisely where and when it is needed, generating more heat. Conversely as the ambient temperature rises, the core expands and reduces the number of electrical paths, producing less heat.
